File storage limits

MyWikis provides a generous allowance for file storage depending on your wiki plan.

For Gen2 (wikis on mywikis.wiki), as of April 29, 2021:

  • MyWikis Basics: 10 GB
  • MyWikis Pro: 25 GB
  • MyWikis Corporate: 100 GB

Gen2 storage is 100% cloud storage, offering faster transfer speeds, lower prices, and more security. Additional storage can be purchased on Gen2 wikis for $0.10/GB/mo.

For Generation 1 (wikis on mywikis.net), as of July 28, 2020:

  • MyWikis Basics: 100 MB
  • MyWikis Pro: 500 MB
  • MyWikis Corporate: 5 GB

For VPSes:

  • Cloud Storage: 500 GB, additional storage for $0.10/GB/mo
  • Classic: 20 GB

Additional storage cannot be purchased on Generation 1 wikis. However, Generation 1 wikis can migrate to Gen2 to take advantage of the higher storage allowances.

Each file can only be up to 100 MB. If you need to store larger files, we recommend uploading them to a cloud storage service, then linking it to your wiki. MyWikis was not meant to be a file repository; however, if you wish to use it like one, there may be additional fees.

The following is no longer true:

MyWikis securely stores your wiki's files on AWS S3. The price of your plan includes the cost of providing file storage and file transfers.

If your wiki has more than 10 GB of outbound transfer per month, you will be charged $0.50 for any additional GB of outbound transfer.

MyWikis asks that wikis with a large amount of files either use the VPS plan or pay for a storage add-on plan. The average wiki on MyWikis contains anywhere between dozens to hundreds of files and images. Only a small minority of our wikis use more than 1 GB of file storage, but collectively take up over half of our servers' storage capacity. This detracts from the experience of other MyWikis users, which we want to avoid.

On April 19, 2020, we asked all new clients importing more than 1 GB of files to use the VPS plan. We informed existing customers using more than 1 GB of storage to move to the VPS plan in the months after that. As of April 21, 2021, we are now allowing users to stay on their existing plan but move to using a storage add-on plan.
